Church of the Advent - Worship Protocols
  • Services will be offered at 8am and 11am every Sunday, with the 11am service live-streamed. (The extra time between services allows us to clean properly.)
  • We are limited to 30 people maximum at a service.
  • Please contact the church office to reserve a space at worship before noon on Friday. Call the church at (609) 884-3065 or email at adventsecretary@comcast.net.
  • If you or anyone in your home is sick, do not attend in-person worship.
  • Masks must be worn. You may remove your mask briefly to receive communion.
  • The people leading worship will wear masks except when speaking or reading.
  • Each person will maintain 6 feet of distance between other people unless they are living in your home.
  • We will not have any books available in the pews. You may bring your own Prayer Book or access the Prayer Book online with a smart phone or tablet. The words of the service will be displayed on a screen in the pulpit.
  • Everyone will enter the church through the main entrance on the corner of Franklin and Washington Streets unless they need to use the handicap entrance off Washington Street. The main door will be propped open to eliminate people touching door handles.
  • The usher will ask for your name and contact information such as a phone number or email address. This is required by the diocese for contact tracing. It also allows the usher to leave space for those with reservations.
  • When the church has reached the 30 person capacity, people will be turned away.
  • The usher will direct people to the rear tables and ask people to first use hand sanitizer and then pick up a copy of the service bulletin. Offering plates will also be on these tables. Please place your offering in the plate before or after worship. You are encouraged to donate by mail or by PayPal from the Advent website.
  • Seating is marked in the pews at intervals so that 6 feet of distance can be maintained. Please sit in a marked position, bearing in mind that family groups might require you to adjust to maintain proper distancing.
  • There will be no singing.
  • During communion, ushers will direct people down the side aisles of the church to the altar rail. Continue to maintain 6 feet of distance between other people. When you arrive at the rail, please remove your mask, hold out your hands and a host will be dropped into your hands, avoiding skin contact. After consuming the host, please replace your mask on your face and return to your pew by the center aisle.
  • After worship, you should depart the church through the ambulatory door or the parking lot door. Please do not congregate in or near the church before or after worship.
  • If you use the church restroom, please protect the next person by wiping all surfaces you touched with the Clorox disinfecting wipes that are provided.
  • Until further notice, there will be no Sunday school or coffee hour.
  • We are unable to accept food donations or school supplies at this time; please donate directly to our local food banks or other outreach organizations.
