The Rev. Alan Leonard has been rector of Church of the Advent since February, 2019. He is a life-long Episcopalian who loves the liturgy and the inclusive traditions of the Episcopal church. Fr. Alan is a graduate of the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, California. He also holds a master’s degree in counseling from Northern Illinois University. Prior to moving to Cape May, he spent 13 years serving St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Boiling Springs, South Carolina. He also spent six years as an army chaplain, including a 15-month tour in Baghdad. His military time prompted his involvement in veterans ministry; he is a member of the Cape May Veterans of Foreign Wars post and served the VFW post in South Carolina as their chaplain.
Alan and his wife, Brenda, have been married over 25 years. Brenda is a cellist and works as a freelance musician. They have two children. Tim and his wife, Judith, live in Hamburg, Germany with their infant daughter. Raquel lives in South Carolina. They also have two “extra” children of whom they are quite fond. Tracy and her family live in St. Frances, Kansas, where her husband is a church pastor. Jack is a student at the University of Georgia in cello performance and fiber arts.
Church of the Advent is located at the corners of Franklin and Washington Streets in Cape May, across from the old fire house and the Post Office. Our address is 612 Franklin Street, Cape May, NJ. The Parish Hall is on Franklin Street, behind the church building.
